Welcome to the ultimate trivia podcast. The show where knowledge is power and laughter is our only reward. We've got Brian, we've got Kelly, Scott, Nick, I am your host, Andy. The whole crew is here. Kelly's already drawing inappropriate pictures on his whiteboard. It's going to be a hell of a night. I'm 12.
We've got a great trivia. Nick has written a wonderful Americana trivia for us, but I'm not going to tell you what it is. You can look at the show title, but the guys haven't learned it yet. So we're going to keep that a secret for a moment. And first we have a little bit of housekeeping to do. Okay. We've been doing this a few months now.
The response has been outstanding. Thank you very much for your feedback, your kind words, and even the ones that are a little constructive. We thrive on that. We want to get better for you. We haven't done a great job, however, of letting you know how you can connect with us. So we have our email address, the ultimate trivia podcast at gmail.
com. We also are all over the socials. Okay. Instagram is probably where we're most active. We have our show page, but if you look at the description of each episode, there are hot links to each of our individual Instagrams as well. So we encourage you to follow your favorite crew member. Reach out. Let us know.
Yeah. Let's, let's, uh, let's communicate. Did you know we had a YouTube, Nick? I did know that. Okay. I, I, maybe one of the few people that keeps giving us thumbs up. That's right. Yeah. We would love it if you would give us a little love on YouTube that helps us gain some traction there. Brian, did you know we have a TikTok?
Obviously. Yeah, I know, obviously. We have a TikTok. We release some teasers out there, just like we do on Instagram and our Facebook page as well. So, uh, feel free to reach out at that point. We do have an ex. Nobody's done anything with it yet, but we at least, we have secured the name for it at least. And so maybe we'll get active down there at some point.
But, uh, you know, we really want to bring fresh content to you. And we're constantly brainstorming our social media team is working to constantly keep you engaged. So now let's turn our attention to the coming days. All right. We have big plans for this, uh, this podcast and moving forward. We are going to be moving into a new studio.
That's exciting. The good doctor is coordinating that for us. We are going to add video to our recordings, which will help our YouTube and Nicholas is on point for that right now. It's a little bit in the future, but we are certainly starting to have those conversations. We're also creating a Patreon subscription channel.
Okay. Now this is going to carry a lot of different ways you can connect with us. There's going to be different tiers. There's going to be ways you can submit questions. There's going to be ways that you can actually get bonus episodes. Maybe you can get the episodes a little early. This is all in the works, but we want to let you know, we're working to get better and provide a better experience for you.
Did I miss anything guys? No, just more to come. Yeah. There's more to come. Yeah. Yeah, no, I'm excited about this. Good deal. Good deal. Okay. Well, with that in mind, we're going to get right to the question of the week. It comes in from a JT Roberts. Now JT is a good friend of the show. He is an author. He is a soon to be fellow podcaster.
In fact, so you can find JT Roberts. On thriftbooks. com and his current project. He also has something coming up here expected for release in summer of 25 and a companion podcast. In fact, which he'll begin recording in the months to come, but does expect a concurrent release. So to the question of the, all the unsolved mysteries of the universe, if you could have one.
Answered today, which would it be and why? That's a tough question. That's a tough question. Kelly, you got one? I think I'll start. Okay. There's, there's two that come to mind. Black holes, obviously. Um, just, no, I can't go any further than that. I just want to know what the hell they are. Where does everything go?
Are they even real? Yeah. Huh? Are they even real? Do we even know? Um, and more importantly, I want to know which imaginary guy in the sky is it. Is the real one, if there is, if there is one, yeah, that's a, yeah. Well, I think you stole two answers. Yeah, you did. You can, you can expand. Those are the two big ones, I guess.
Aren't they? Yeah. Um, I'll, I'll go ahead and jump in. I spend a lot of time looking at the sky and the expanse of space is something that our tiny little brains cannot comprehend. There's gotta be intelligent life forms in societies out there. To be there to be just has to be right. And I would love to know, I would love to know the answer.
Sure. I don't need to meet 'em, I don't need to know their technology or anything like that. I just want to know. I want a confirmation that it's out there. Mm-Hmm. . So that's my answer. I'm with you. Yeah, I'm with you. I think I have like, I would go more origin. As far as, you know, how did, how did it really begin?
You know, for sure. I know there's theories, big bang, you know, like why, or where did that, if that, if that even is the answer, if there is a guy in the sky and all that, you know, to truly know the answer to the origin, there's a lot of theories out there. There's some crazy stuff, which is awesome to go down that rabbit.
Right. It is fun. You know, whether you believe aliens started all this, you know, there's, I forget the guy I listened to, you know, he's like, if you read the Bible, God's an alien. He's out of this world, you know, and then when you kind of get that perspective, it changes everything. How you kind of look at the basis of Scientology.
I have no idea. I think so. I don't know. I'm speaking out of my armpit. We'll talk to Tom Cruise and see what he has to say about it. That's right. But I, I would like to know the true origin if you would have everything where it all truly began.
I'm gonna go a little different direction and say, um, I would like for cancer to be fully understood because I would assume therefore we would be able to cure it. It is a disease that is manifest in so many different ways, it's been around a long time, and for whatever reason, we can't figure it out. And we are pouring billions, trillions of dollars into it, which could be a whole nother conspiracy podcast.
And I won't go down that road. I'm not, I'm not even advocating, yeah, I'm not even advocating that that's true. I'm just saying we haven't figured it out yet. And I think it would improve a lot of quality of life in this country if, in this world, if, um, That was resolved. So a lot more people on this earth.
If we figured out cancer, there's already too many. Yeah. These are our listeners, Nicholas. I like them. Right. Brian, you got anything rolling through the brain brother? Yeah. Actually I'm going to go with you. Same thing. Yeah. I want to know about intelligent life. There's gotta be something else out there and that has to be, that's probably my biggest question.
It's already here. They're already here. Come on, guys. You think they're on Earth? Yeah. Come on. No way. They're listening to this. Oh, well, you're our favorite listeners, then. Yeah. Can we shoot this into space and just see what happens back at some point? All right. Well, thank you, JT. Again, that's JT Roberts.
You can find him, I'm sure, on all the socials. I don't know him, I don't know the exact addresses on him, but, uh, he's a great friend of the podcast and we appreciate his support. Alright, you guys ready for some trivia? Nick's got a good one. I believe I do. Let's do it!
It's time for the main event, our 10 question trivia game. On American beers, right in our wheelhouse wheel house. Well, I drink them. Doesn't mean I know anything about, okay. That's fair. Okay. And Nick will be our host. He has written this trivia and here's how it works. He'll read out the questions and we will all write our answers on our whiteboard.
When he tells us to reveal, we have to show our answers. If we get it right, we all get high fives. And if we don't, it's going to be a rough one. All right. Let's see who comes out on top today. Nicholas, it is all yours, brother. All right, gentlemen. I think this is our wheelhouse. I expect you guys to do pretty well, in my opinion.
I, when I did these questions, I feel like I knew a good amount of them. We have the ability to disappoint. Yeah, for sure. For sure. But, uh, I mean, as far as the history, the American beer, uh, I just like, I just have a few fun facts for you. You know, I like fun facts. I do too. So, uh, before the Europeans arrived or, you know, got lost on their way to India here.
The Native Americans brewed beer from maize, birch, sap, and water. Uh, they shared it, or maybe it was stolen from them, the recipe with the pilgrims. So, fun fact, you know, beer has been brewed here for a very long time. Yeah. Okay. It was a staple of the early American diet, because it was pretty much the only clean source of water they had.
Uh, the first known brewery in America, 1612 in New Amsterdam, now known as New York. I don't think that's America yet. Well, yeah, you know, but the new, they call it the Americas or something. I think it was. Yeah. Uh, first commercial brewery in 1632 and a little trivia for you. The first time beer was taxed was by Lincoln.
1862. He was busy. He was a mover and a shaker. You like to mix things up. We know that much. So yeah, he started taxing beer. Yeah. So yeah, it's a little fun facts for you, but yeah, let's jump into it guys. You ready? Oh yeah. Okay. First question. Yingling is a well known for being the oldest operating brewery in our country.
Right. A little less known fact is that they had to pivot from beer during prohibition. So what product did Yingling make and sell during those dark years of prohibition? Yeah. What a great question. A lot, a lot of breweries had to pivot away from beer for obvious reasons. So what did Yingling, what did they start selling?
Hmm. Hmm. Yeah. Was hand sanitizer a thing back then? There was no sanitation back then. No, that was, that's a COVID joke. Was there a year in there? Was there a year in there? No, there wasn't. So, uh, they, 1920 is when they actually started producing, uh, This specific product. Okay. So 1920. So very prohibition.
What did Yingling start to produce and sell? I have a guess. It was just a guess. Yeah. Brian, you got there quick, brother. Do you know this? Total guess? No. Oh, I figured somebody, you have a decent clue on this. I'll give you a couple more seconds, Andy, because it looks like everybody else has an answer. All right.
All right. It's horrible. Let's go ahead and reveal gentlemen, gentlemen. We, uh, Andy has feed. Brian has soda, Kelly with soda, and Scotty with soda. You were all incorrect. They still sell this today. It is ice cream. Oh. They got into the dairy business, gentlemen. They started selling ice cream. Yeah. And they, they, uh, they actually carried on selling ice cream until like, what, 1984.
Then they started, they actually opened it back up again in like 2014. Under the Yingling brand. It is a Yingling ice cream. Still, you can still buy it today. Yeah. I think Kelly's on the hot on the fact. I pulled up the website today to make sure they got some weird flavors out there. But yeah. Do they have beer flavored?
Uh, they have one called Butterbeer. Well, that's a Harry Potter thing, right? It is, but I don't know where it originated. Yeah. I don't know when they started selling Butterbeer, but yeah, no, that's, they're black and tan, you know, they have quite a few different flavors, but yeah, they started selling ice cream.
Yeah. I'd like to try it. Bill, you're a beer fan. Would you? Would you eat beer flavored ice cream? I'd try. I'd try anything once. Well, fair. Except blowfish. I think I've heard that a lot of breweries started selling like soda, I think, right? Yeah, that's where my guess came from. You had the bottling, you had everything, access to that.
Fair point. All right, well done. Well, that question was going to be a huge layup of just asking you what the oldest Operating was nah, you knew we knew that too easy for that. Yeah, it's gonna ask where it's brewed or something That's where I thought you were going. Yeah, me too. Where is it bridges? We do.
We know that a future question. No, it's not Pennsylvania Yeah, and I am a yingling beer in my fridge right now I mean, I know this episode will come out later, but for the football tournament ready to go What state did you buy it in not, Illinois? Yeah, not terrible They have it in Indiana and they have it in Missouri.
I know, and Kentucky for that matter. All right, let's move on to question two. You guys ready? Sure. Which American beer known for its iconic big red branding was brewed by a company founded in the 1860s in Chicago. And all these beers are American beers and. These are all, if you would, household names, if you would, you know, you've heard of all of these beers.
I'm not, I didn't go crazy deep on anything. Craft brews. Yeah. In the Northwest or anything. I didn't go out with any that you've never heard of. So, Big Red Branding was brewed by a company founded in 18, in the 1860s, 1860s in Chicago.
All right. I'm ready. Like you're good. Not ready yet. All right. So yeah, that is my little help to you guys. Think of beers you've heard of. All right. I think we're good. Everybody's good. So one last time, this American beer known for its iconic big red branding was brewed by a company founded in the 1860s in Chicago.
Let's reveal. Scotty with Amstel, Kelly with Old Style, Brian with Schlitz, and we have hands from Andy. We're different answers. Kelly is correct. Hey! It is Old Style. Nice work. It is Old Style. Makes sense as soon as you say it. I'm getting thirsty. Yeah. Yeah, the red branding. That one, that's a good clue. I wrestled with that though.
Yeah, I did too. And I thought that Chicago would help too. No. Old Style is a Chicago beer. I didn't know that. I didn't read through it. That would help to know that. The red threw me off. Yeah. Yep, yep. The red branding. Well, the red branding, big red label on it, I guess, you know. Yeah. Is it red? That's, I believe so those more blue style is it Thought it was blue.
Yeah. That's why it threw me off like a blue shield of sorts. That's why it threw me off. Ah, that's that newfangled stuff says old style and red maybe. I don't know. I don't know. I do have a glass picture. with old style on it. Is it red? That shout out from John Stuckey gave me, and I don't remember, I don't remember the color.
I should've looked at it before. You're doing a great job. Yeah, should've looked at it before. I mean, I don't have a lot of detail about old style. Has any really ventured into that? I can't say I've ever had it before. I've had it. What are your thoughts on it? That's pretty good. Just a pretty standard.
Yeah. American lager. American. I've only had it at Wrigley. Oh, okay. Never had it outside of that ballpark. Okay. All right. Well, we got a picture and blue and blue and well, okay. Yeah. Hey, good job. Kelly experts at nothing. And we do rely on AI for some of these things. So it is what it is. All right. Moved on to question three, which iconic American beer brand made history in the 1970s by introducing the very first light beer, first American light beer.
Gentlemen, give me the full one. Give me the full question again. Which iconic American beer brand made history in the 1970s by introducing the very first light beer. I feel like we're going to have some right answers on this one. I feel pretty confident about this one with you guys. It's one of two for me.
All right. Let's say everybody's got an answer. Here we go. Reveal them. We have Miller Lite, Miller Lite, Miller Lite, and Miller. Light. We have four correct answers. Ayo! I don't know. He didn't write the name of the beer. Well, he asked for the brewery! It did say beer brand. So, I'll give it to you. I'll give it to you.
Maybe you don't get the right answer, Kelly. Yeah. So, released in 1975. That was when it was introduced. Nice. I don't think any of us here have been big Miller Lite fans, but I was always a fan of the old school can. That's all I drank in high school. Really? Tastes like hairspray. Yeah. Oh. Yeah. I don't like it.
I drank Miller Lite until I started hanging out with Brian and Kelly. Ah. And then Bud Light became the thing? And then I started, because they would drink Bud Light, you know, there's Bud Light around, so I made the switch just because of Social reasons, I guess. I will say now, like I prefer Miller Lite. Do you really?
Yeah. Hands down. Interesting. I always, I always liked the can, the white can, whatever the emblem is on the front, just look cool. Look cool. I always dug it. Yeah. All right. Well, let's move on. Question number four. What classic American beer proudly features the phrase from the glass line tanks of old Latrobe on its label?
Celebrating its rich brewing tradition. So American beer brewery from the glass line tanks of old Latrobe. This is one of my favorite beers. I know Brian loves it. Oh, so you know the answer and he loves it too. Oh, all right. I like them wrong, but whatever. Okay. Everybody got an answer. I'm ready. Let's reveal.
We have cores rolling rock, rolling rock and rolling rock. We had three correct answers with rolling rock, baby. Yes. Yeah. Old Latrobe. That is, I believe the oldest continuous brewery. Is that No. Am I Yingling is the oldest. Oh, you're right. No, that's right. They don't, no, they they don't even make beer anymore.
Old Latrobe. They're rolling rocks. Made in St. Louis. Yeah, they were bought by nbi. Oh, did they? Yeah. They bought, bought. I mean, I, I love rolling rock. Yeah, it is awesome. It's like water shot out. Brad Rogers put me on it. Yeah. Yeah. The whole glass line barrels. I've looked that up. It has to do with sanitation, temperature control, durability.
I guess, I guess nobody else does that. So I found it pretty cool. If they, if they're doing it in St. Louis, that's done it by the Anheuser Busch brewery. Are they still doing it? The same way? I hope so. If it's on the label. Yeah, well, I feel like you kind of have to, you know, is there a brewery like completely shut down or they're just no longer operating like, I don't know that, but I think it's shut down completely, but I don't know that for sure.
I don't know. Yeah, cool. I guess I should have dug a little harder on some of this stuff. All right, we're going to move on to question number five. We're going to do a score check after this one, right? After five. Yeah. All right. Are you winning? Are you? No, I know I'm losing. I don't know how bad I'm losing.
I haven't been paying enough attention to know who's winning. I have no idea. You guys, you guys know the answer. All right. What bold flavored and budget friendly brew is affectionately nicknamed The Beast. There we go. I found this to be a layup. I don't know how to spell it. I'm struggling. Remember, spelling is not a requirement.
Pronounce it slowly. As long as the host can make out what they think you meant. Okay. All right. Bold flavored budget friendly Nicknamed the beast. All right. Looks like almost everybody's ready. All right, scotty. You ready? All right, let's reveal We got milwaukee's best milwaukee's best milwaukee's best and everybody has milwaukee's best.
Yo Good job guys. I feel like milwaukee's best always has like a bad stigma to it That was my high school beer. So it was like free almost. It was so cheap. It was either that or Keystone Ice. I mean, come on. They threw it in with packs of Tide. That's great. Yeah. No, yeah. I mean, when you're scraping the floorboard for change, you get what you can get.
I never found that to be much of the young person drink. My grandfather always had Milwaukee's Best in the fridge in his basement, but I don't remember. Me and Brian drank a lot of it when we were young because it was so cheap. Yeah, we sure did. I mean, you're paying for it now, aren't you? It gets a bad rap, but this is an award winning beer.
It has won multiple awards, even recently. No kidding. Like, I looked this up, yeah, like, 09 and 03 and that kind of stuff. This beer has been winning awards. So, I don't know why it gets such a bad name. I want to know who's handing out those awards. High schoolers. It's not the VFW. Well, I'd be curious, though.
The Joliet Tribune? I mean, what do we got here? There is some merit to the fact if something is more expensive, it is automatically given a higher tier of respect a lot of times. We know that. If you drink any kind of wine, you know that's not true. Or bourbon. Bourbon, for that matter. Right? Yeah. Great American Beer Festival.
That's incredible. Okay. I don't know. Is that 10 people like that? That's a big dog. I don't know. I don't know. I've never been to it, but yeah. Okay. Well, sounds like a legitimate organization. It actually is abbreviated to GAB. He's on the board. I wish, but no, but no, it, I, maybe it just has a, it got a bad rap.
That's all I'm starting to say. Scotty. Did you, were you, did you partake when you were in high school or were you? Yeah. I mean, and, but I think it was Miller light and, and you were rich, I guess. You must have had a job. I did, but, I mean, it wasn't, I didn't drink, yeah, the Beast. Miller was the biggest beer, for sure.
I feel like in social gatherings it was usually Miller. That was the biggest beer. Really? Yeah. I feel like Bud Light played the, played the lead role. I guess it depends, yeah, the circle you ran in. We ran in a certain circle. We've known each other since then. I don't know. I remember a lot of Miller Light, Bud Light, but Ice House, Keystone.
I mean, come on. They started doing 30 racks. You just grab one, you know. So, yeah. That's true. Miller Light was the first one to do the 30 rack. That's not on this trivia. I don't know that for sure. I believe you though. Yeah, it's not on the trivia. I'm assuming that that's the case. Cause it came into my debut at the great American beer.
Obviously. I also remember Kelly debuted it at the great American beer when you were a younger person and you, you would try out different beers. All of a sudden you're drinking things like Bud ice or, you know, St. Ives forties. Yes, exactly. Uh, yeah, still reserved to 11. Trying it out. I think you're drinking what's there.
Also, but you know, we, you know, we had that local liquor store here that was a little bit easier to get beer from. And sometimes, yeah, you would just try. I had Alize for, I mean, well, I know why, because I watch a lot of hip hop videos, but yeah, I, you would try things you would not try today. Definitely.
That's all I'm saying. I don't know what it would take to pay me. To take an entire bottle of Mad Dog 2020. Go get one. Yeah. No, I'll do it right now. You would do it. I would not do it. Sounds terrible. Yeah. Sounds terrible. Terrible idea. Let's do it. Let's do it. Well, we are through five. Uh, Kelly, can we get a score recap?
Uh, we got Scott coming in, uh, bring it in the rear with two. Brian and Andy have three and I'm in the lead with four. Well done. Coming for you, baby. Still, still a tight race. Yeah. Still time. Mm hmm. So let's move on to the second half. Question number six, which infamous 1970s Schlitz brewing company ad campaign used a provocative and startling slogan, aiming to make a bold statement and grab consumer attention with edgy humor stating drink Schlitz or blank.
So it's, it's the slogan drink Schlitz or I will say, it could be one word or more. And there's actually two technical answers for it. So I have a little bit of wiggle room with you guys, but it's the slogan drink Schlitz or I had, I put this one in here and not cause I thought you guys would know it.
Cause I think it's hilarious. Okay. I think it's great. 1970 Schlitz, their ad campaign. Seriously, drink seventies were pretty savage. Not as bad as the nineties. I have so many inappropriate. Right. Yeah. But no, this was a true ad campaign. You know, I guess I could say on TV and radio and that kind of thing, you know, they were trying to make a splash.
Yeah, so drink, schlitz, or blank. Kelly has an answer. Brian's starting to write. Andy's good. Scotty, you're good? Alright, let's reveal. Alright, we're going around the room. Die, go home, die, and die. Die works. Die works! Oh my gosh! So the two options were, or, Drink Schlitz, or I will kill you. Or drink Schlitz, or die.
Those were the two, yes. Die was the first thing that popped in my head, but I'm like, eh, I don't know. I mean, I went there just for fun. For comedy. Cause I didn't feel like I knew the answer. I had to put it in there. I was hoping you guys would even get it right. Yeah. I just, it blew my mind seeing it. They had another great slogan.
What do you, when you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer. It's just, those are great. Those are great. That's a great line. That's a good one. Yeah. But could you, I mean, I can imagine that slogan today that doesn't fly in this thing. No drink Schlitz or I will kill you. Yeah. So had, had to put it in there just for that reason.
I'm glad that you guys got it. Where do we know where slits is? Like, isn't the new Hampshire, uh, state slogan live free or die, which I always found irony too. I didn't make me know where slits is. I was Milwaukee, but I believe was Milwaukee. Okay. Yes. Originally at least. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, it was, it was, it was a big brewery back in the day, like before Anheuser Schlitz was one of the big ones.
Okay. Yeah. All right. Let's move on. Question number seven. What was the name of Anheuser Busch's first foray into the light beer market? And it's still a fan favorite today. So Anheuser Busch, What was the name of their first light beer? Mm mm And that does help. It is still a fan favorite today. So it still exists.
That's what I'm trying to tell you, right? Hmm. I am writing an answer. You have to think about all the different beers. I wish I was writing what they still brew and everything else. Like there's, there's options for sure. This could be a game changer. Could be really. All right. Brian seems confident. Yeah.
Oh, I don't know about that. He's ready to flip. I mean, it has to be, I'd be shocked if it's not one of two, but, um, obviously I don't know. Multiple popped in my head. At least, I think at least three popped in my head when I, when I was thinking about, Oh yeah, actually pretty much. Yeah. Uh, okay. Nevermind. I don't want to say anything.
Everybody, does everybody have an answer? So, we're looking for Anheuser Busch's, their first light beer that they released. Okay. Let's reveal. We got Bud Light, Bud Light, Bud Light, and Bud Light. You guys are I had Bush Light. Oh, Bush Light. Sorry. My apologies. You're all wrong anyway. Is it Michelob? Natty Light.
Natty! Natural Light. That was my third option. Natural Light. Yes. Love it. That was their first jump into the light beer business, boys. Yeah. That's interesting. I'm surprised. I thought they created Bud Light to compete with Miller Light. Mmm. You would think. I did too. But, interesting fact. But light was their third release of light beer.
Number two was Michelou. Yeah, Michelou Light. My all time favorite beer. Which is a fan favorite at this table. It's gone now. They don't make it anymore. Oh man. I have a bottle, an open bottle on my bar top at home just because they don't make it anymore. Where exactly? We still can't get it at that casino in Vegas that we always get it at?
No, you can't, yeah. Dang, you just ruined my night. I don't think they make just regular Michelob. I think Michelob and Michelob Light's gone. So it's just that ultra stuff? Well, and what, Amber Bach? Golden. Golden Light. Yeah. Ultra. Ultra. Ultra. Very popular one. So, Natty Light was released in 77. Michelob Light in 78.
And Bud Light wasn't until 1981. Another fun fact you guys got a 2011. Natty light was the first beer in space. Oh Love it. That's I like that. Wow. I mean via which astronaut drinks
Wealthy people Have like an unlimited budget how much did Budweiser pay for them or did he but they picked out a Russian? Yeah They could have snuck it into Yeah, you know Like they stuck it in their waistband as they were entering the shuttle and, uh, you know, to sneak it out. It's, it's, it's, it's Russian.
So like they're a little behind us maybe. So daddy likes new. It's a premium. Like Cuba with their cars from the sixties. They're still driving them. Something like that, right? Yeah, exactly. Oh, all right. Moving on to question number eight, which brewery. Was the first to use an aluminum can for packaging beer in 1959.
Also, cause I was going to do another part of it. They also were the first brewery to use pull tabs. So to be more specific, it's not the first can the first aluminum can. Right. And then the pull tab. This is a classic case of, I know the answer, but I cannot recall it. So this brewery first one to use aluminum cans.
And also the pull tab.
Got an answer. Scotty. I got an answer. Yeah, he's good. Kelly's still writing. Brian's deep in thought. Hey, just thinking about beer Trying to get there. I'm trying to get there. Kelly's good. Brian's good. Andy. You got a couple seconds. Oh, come on Get a beer down. Come on brewery Aluminum cans pull tabs first one to do it.
All right. Everybody's got an answer. Let's reveal We got Kers, Anheuser Busch, red white and blue, and Coors. Coors is correct, gentlemen So that was my first guess. I pulled that one right out of thin air, baby. Holy smokes. Yeah, of course, which I had been to that brewery recently. I think they talked about that.
I knew they had a pull tab, but you know, that's the only reason I wrote it down. I had no other different piece of trivia about that, which I can't reveal in case it's no nine or 10. Okay. Okay. Yeah. But, uh, you know, the aluminum can better for waste and stuff like that. Uh, Well, they had cans of beer. You have to literally use a can opener to get into, you know, up until this point, this was P 38.
Let's see. 59 was aluminum cans. 63 was the pull tab. Do you have another, uh, Coors trivia question? Uh, do not. No, they're also the first with the twist top. Really? Okay. Oh, that, that piece. I knew why I wrote this down. I didn't think it was the right answer. I'll admit to that right now. I guess they're very inventive, but they're, but they're, they are innovative.
And they do the whole blue mountain thing when it's ready to, man, they are on the edge of science.
I do recommend that brewery tour. If you ever go to Colorado, a lot of fun, Denver, Colorado, Colorado, which is like, 30 to 45 minutes outside of Denver. Sounds lovely. It was. It was very nice. Nice little town. We took my eldest son there. Eldest son there for his 21st birthday, basically. So good times. Well, that was question eight.
Kelly, score recap, sir. All right. We have Brian with three. Scotty with four and Andy and myself tied with five coming. Ooh, Ooh, let's do it. Wow. Okay. I'm like, I'm more excited now than ever. All right. Number nine. So according to Nielsen IQ, I had referencing where I found this, which beer was the top selling beer in the U S market in 2023.
So top selling beer in the U S.
2023 specifically. I hate this question. I'm pretty sure I think I'm right. This can be tough if you know beer. 60%. If you wouldn't have quantified it with the year, I'm 100 percent right. Sure. Yes. We'll get to why that's true 2023, right? Top selling beer in the U. S. Okay. Everybody have an answer? I'm ready.
Alright, let's reveal. Bud Light. Modelo. Modelo. Modelo. Modelo is correct. It's that dang ad campaign, wasn't it? Yes. God dang it. Yes. I know, that's why I said it. Yeah. So yeah, 2023. Yep. Bud Light had a, I mean, because Bud Light's been it. Yeah, forever. I mean, for, I can't remember how long. Or since it came out, anyway, in the 70s, evidently.
No, not since it came out, but like, Bud Light, Bud Light. Did not overtake motor light right away. It didn't really happen until like they their ad campaigns started blowing up like spuds mckenzie and the superbowl stuff That is what catapulted budweiser. Yeah, they started pushing to the younger crowd. So that's why they blew up but 2023 Yeah, but like was under a little bit of scrutiny That one well, we don't have to touch why but You know, they were on a bit of under a bit of scrutiny and, uh, well, Dello, how I'm dying to know how clearly that was widely known.
You all three of you knew it. I've seen it on multiple lists, just social media, whatnot. Yeah. I drink and I know things. Well done. He drank to know things. Yeah. I'm in touch with current events. Well, there goes that title for the lead. Sorry, Drewby. Well, it's still a chance. Maybe you can come back on this one.
Oh, I'm getting it. Question number 10, the very tight race, which beer features the iconic girl in the moon on its label, adds a touch of celestial elegance to its branding, iconic beer. The label has what is called Girl in the Moon.
This one I did not know. Yeah, I don't. Is Kelly still in the label? Kelly has a shoulder shrug, Brian. I'd love to. I I God Brian driving me crazy. I know. This confidence. The confidence in Brian. I, I wrote something down. I'm not positive. Oh my goodness. Andy, any answer to this? I got an answer down. Got an answer.
I, I don't like it. Scotty's working on it. 'cause you're trying to picture the label. Scotty. No, I, I know the beer. I am pulling, I remember the Titans moment. Oh, it is reference. Perfect. He's pulling a nick, pulling a nick. I'm spending too much time making fun of you, I should be thinking about the titans.
Yes, you should, but the reference for Nick is going to always be remember the titans and not remembering the titans. Hey, remember? Oh. Don't slam on the table. Okay. All right. Scott, you got one? I'll give you two more seconds to write down something. Come on American beers. I told you well, I know the answer Well, I don't know the answer, but I know anything else.
I write is wrong. I know three two and one Let's reveal we have blue moon Miller highlife blue moon and a blank bride Queen or sir Miller. Hi Miller. Hi I am great here Champagne. A beer's close to our hearts because of our whiffle ball tournament. Yeah, it is the trophy. It's the trophy that beer you get.
That's right. So I had to have well done, I had to have a high life one in this, so that wasn't what I was thinking of. So I feel better now. Oh, what are you thinking? I can't think of it. Well, I can't think about it. If I could think of it, I would've wrote it down. Yeah. So, uh, I don't have a lot of detail about it.
I mean, it's on the label. It was there, it's been taken away and been brought back. There's not no real significant, like I try to look up the significance of it, but there's like multiple stories of where it could have came from. Somebody's daughter and all these other things. So I dug into it, but there's not a whole lot to say about it other than it's an interesting thing.
Kelly, you got a label over there on that fancy computer over there? No. Okay. You can look it up. I looked it up plenty. So that was 10. Kelly, where do we stand? This was a tight race. This was probably the closest one we've had. It was a lot of fun. Yeah. Scott, Brian, and Andy all had five and you're listening to your winner.
Wow. Six. Kelly. Kelly. Congratulations. Very impressed. Would have taken that one. Not going to lie. Very impressed. Any, any of these questions that surprised you? The Miller Highlife one was tough. That was tough. Yeah. The highlight. Yeah. I actually fully expected a champagne of beers. I also expected a stag question because that is a, uh, geographically close to home type of, but I didn't put that in there because we go to the trivia events.
We go to stag is asked about often. Sure. So that's why I did not. But our listeners in Germany, well, you know, that's deep trivia to them, you know, but that was part of the reason. By the way, we're huge in Germany. It's one of the six countries listening. So yeah, but good. Yeah. Great job, Dick. Really good stuff.
We got listeners who got 10 out of 10 on that one. Yeah, I would like to think so. Yeah, I'd imagine so. You know, I, I, I didn't think this would be super difficult, but I thought it could be a little bit enlightening, like things you would not know, you know, That kind of thing. It was good. I like it. Yeah.
Miller like questions or high life questions. Great. Cause I don't ever look at the label clearly or the box soon as he showed Brian ended up looking it up for us. As soon as he showed it. Yeah, of course. But. Yeah. It's just not in there. Yeah. And I wanted to pay tribute to the beers like that. We know though, I didn't want to go down deep to, I tell, uh, saying earlier, uh, or I, yeah, I looked up one that had to do like the first IPA in America.
It was like Sierra Nevada. We've heard of it, but we're not going to know that. I wanted the classic stuff, the millers, the Schlitzes, that kind of thing. Nice. So drink Schlitz or die. Remember that for the rest of your life? Yeah, I'm going to hashtag, that's merch, right? Well, actually, my copyright problem there, but Buy me that shirt.
Yeah. Well, I feel like they'd be open to us. Yeah, well, that's a good point. It is pre advertising with them, isn't it? Well, again, congrats, Kelly. Yeah. Nice job, Kelly. That'll move us on to the bonus question. Good deal. This is a pretty easy one. May cause a little debate, may not. But what is your favorite beer?
And your preferred drinking vessel. So how do you like it served to you? This is easy. Is it easy? I'll go right out of the gate here. I don't mind. I drink very little anymore, as you guys are well aware, but I do very much enjoy a beer. And if I could pick my favorite, it's one of two. And the circumstances are very specific.
One of two, though, you're like, Oh, I got this, but it's one of two based on the circumstances, geographical, let's hear it. Let's not at all. Okay. 99 percent of the time, it is a tall Pilsner glass full of a draft blue moon with either the biggest orange they have, or two oranges that I do juice into the beer.
Oh man, I would pay a lot of money for one of those right this second. Do you remember when Nick used to drink? Be against fruit and beer. Yes, I do. Specific, I'd like to go on the record. I'm still against Fruit and . What Beer? I, I still don't put fruit and beer. I know, but you. No Fruity beer now, but Eliminated the beer, the softball monster.
But one B here is, if I am eating a steak, I must have a Heineken. On the side, cold Heineken. You can go with the Beck's too. The Beck's. Actually, I would choose Stella before Beck's. I do enjoy Stella. I always find Heineken too skunky here. I know. Well, you have the burden of having had it in Germany. In Amsterdam, the brewery's right there.
Had it there. Oh, excuse me. It tasted fantastic. But here it's skunky. And it's not, I like the, that's the point. They're a weird guy, weird guy. My mouth is watering. Yeah. A beer that tastes a little bit bad. So that's mine. Okay. Brian, what do you got? As you know, I like a lot of different types of beer, but if I had to, if I had to pick one though, I'd say Stella Artois in a glass.
Okay. So. Draft or bottle or can like to pour it into such glass. It doesn't just appear that I'm saying I'll take it from the bottle pour it in a glass. Okay, my man my man Kelly There's several over the years and it changes it has changed I've been a big Budweiser guy for a long time. But as far as right now currently I Find myself when I want to enjoy a beer I will get Kona Big Wave.
Ooh. And so, Good answer. I just really like it and I prefer it in a pint glass, a chilled pint glass. Mm hmm. Yes. I mean, that's the way many people think. But do you care if it comes out of a can, draft, or bottle? No. Okay. It doesn't matter to you? Scott? Well, I mean, they don't make it anymore. So, I mean, Miller Lite was my favorite beer.
Michelob. Michelob you mean? Sorry. Michelob Lite was my favorite beer. He doesn't even know. He's distraught. Okay. They took something away from him. It's hard. Yeah. I get it. Yeah. Thank you. Appreciate that. Tell us your truth. Can't believe we're getting along right now. Cause we're not competing against each other.
That's right. Yeah. Don't get used to it. Um, uh, so I'll harken back to our first question. Yingling is my current favorite beer. If I had to have it only one way, it would be in a frosted pint glass. Nice. It poured. I'm sorry. That's great. Yeah. Sorry. I prefer draft beer over any kind of cander bottled. If I.
Had my druthers. So yeah, I would be right out of the drought. I'd be, I'd be good with draft, but I feel like when you go to a most bars, they, maybe they don't clean the lines as much. So I'm a bottle guy to start with. I do pour it into a glass and you guys, we have discussed this. I pour it specifically.
It's like, so it carb, you know, pulls up a certain way and releases like the carbon dioxide and stuff. So it doesn't bloat as much. You're snoring noise. But anyway, no, I'm nerd. I'm nerding you. Okay. Uh, my beer of choice would be an Erdinger. It's a beer you get in Germany. They do have it here, but it's not the same.
Would you call me? Yeah, Erdinger. So, you know, militarily, we go to Germany and like soon as we land, it's like they would hand you an Erdinger, big old bottle, best tasting beer I've ever had. Just delicious beer. It's a wheat beer, of course, you know, very filling, but filtered. Uh, a little sediment to it.
It's, it's, it's, got a haziness to it for sure. It's not clear at all, not clear at all. You know, they really make fun of American beer over there. They consider it like water, but any version of Erdinger I've had, even their, what they call dunkle, their dark beer was smooth and it wasn't bitter or anything, it was just phenomenal.
So give me a bottle Erdinger. A chilled glass again, we're in Europe. So, you know, it's going to be that pint or uh, I guess because they're the pint glass that kind of bulbs up at the top and stuff. Call that a pilsner, right? The pilsner glass, that's what it's considered. So give me that. And one of those, I'm in heaven.
Yeah. Yes. Warm, cold. No, cold, still cold. Yeah. Well, isn't it commonly served in Germany? No, no, no, they don't serve it warm. It's not going to be necessarily, you know, 32. 3 degrees cold. But it is, you know, cold. Yeah. Yeah. Isn't England the one with the little warmer? I think. Yeah. Oh, I thought, I mean, a lot of things, you know, a lot less ice and stuff over there for some weird reason.
But yeah, but that, that's my go to right there if I have a choice. That's the only way they get into soccer is they have to drink warm beer. I mean, you drink a cold beer, you're watching a baseball game with a hot dog. This makes it crazy. Football. They're already miserable, so why not drink warm beer?
Right, you're already watching this miserable sport. He says that while he's wearing a Saint Louis City sweatshirt. Yeah, exactly. I love it. I love the hypocrisy. Well, that's all I got, Andy. I'm going to turn it back over to you. Well, thank you, Nick. I really enjoyed that trivia. Get working right in another one.
